The Workshop Experience

You arrive at a studio in Chiado or Alfama. The instructor introduces the history of azulejos — from Moorish origins to the blue-and-white tradition that defines Lisbon's visual identity. Then you learn the technique: transferring patterns using pounce bags, painting with oxide pigments, and adding the signature cobalt blue glazing.

Each person paints 1–2 tiles. The competitive element comes naturally: whose pattern is the most precise, whose colour blending is the boldest? The instructor provides feedback and shares stories about the tiles visible on buildings all around you.

After painting, tiles go into the kiln. They are shipped to your office within 2–3 weeks — a lasting physical reminder of the experience. Some teams arrange individual tiles into a collaborative mural for the office wall.
